Here is one from the “I don’t like your beliefs file”. A student at Augusta State University who is seeking her Masters degree in school counseling and has been since 2009, has been told by the administration of the University that unless she changes her religious beliefs on homosexuality and transgenderism she will be dismissed from the Masters program.
According to the civil complaint filed last week “[Augusta State University] faculty have promised to expel Miss Keeton from the graduate Counselor Education Program not because of poor academic showing or demonstrated deficiencies in clinical performance, but simply because she has communicated both inside and outside the classroom that she holds to Christian ethical convictions on matters of human sexuality and gender identity.” This woman Jennifer Keeton according to this complaint was told in late May that she would have to take part in a remediation program because of her religious objections to gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans-gender issues.
While she does hold fundamentalist beliefs about human sexuality and behavior this in my opinion is absolute bull. Now I know that there may be quite a few “tolerant” people of the liberal persuasion that are going to call me a hate monger or say retarded crap such as “I hate gays” and believe me it would not be the first time this week even. But what they are trying to do to her is wrong. Who cares if she disagrees with these issues on a religious level, she would still be bound by well established ethical rules of the American Counseling Association and the American School Counselor Association. If she was to fail doing her job according to these established rules she would lose her license.
Before the Liberals get their picket signs out and their special hate mail pens at the ready. Let’s turn this around. Let’s say there was a Homosexual student who’s grades and work showed that they deserved to be in a certain program and they were threatened with being kicked out of their Masters program because they held negative views of straight people. Or an Atheist student was rejected from a program based solely on the fact that they didn’t have an imaginary friend (which I have heard of happening). People would be swinging from the rafters spewing fire and bile at the University that pulled that crap and the American Communist Liberties Union would have at least 9 law suits filed within 10 minutes. So why is it okay for her to be discriminated against because of her beliefs and lifestyle?
Now I am not just talking about Liberals doing this crap. I hear a lot of stories of far right conservatives doing this kind of garbage too. The point is Independent, Liberal, Conservative, Religious and Atheist, we all need to stand up against the fringes of all these groups that try to stand in the way of people working hard to achieve a goal no matter what side of the fence they are on. As long as they follow the established rules and ethics of their chosen career who gives a shit what they believe?
Until Next Time: Think before you react…
