UK To Ban Cigarette Branding.

Here’s one from the stupid regulation file; apparently the United Kingdom has decided that if people just don’t know what brand of cigarette they are smoking that people will quite.

Really? Those thinkers think that smokers are so brand loyal that making the packs of cigarettes plain with no branding what so ever will confuse smokers into quitting. This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I think what these legislative geniuses forget is that smokers are not addicted to the picture and that it really won’t matter.

Let’s look at some of the other steps The UK legislation has taken to try to get people to stop smoking:

1. They have banned all cigarette advertising.

2. Put grisly pictures on packs.

3. Raised the legal age of sale to 18.

4. Banned smoking in virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces.

And guess what? people still smoke. While they tout that smoking rates in the UK have dropped from 21 to 18 percent that is probably due to less people starting to smoke and 80,000 people a year dying from it, but really is this going to make people stop smoking? I highly doubt it.
