Second Class Citizen reporting from a Pinknews.co.uk article that the new UN President Ali Abdussalam Treki from Libya stated the following in a news conference “That matter is very sensitive, very touchy. As a Muslim, I am not in favor of it . . . it is not accepted by the majority of countries. My opinion is not in favor of this matter at all. I think it’s not really acceptable by our religion, our tradition. “It is not acceptable in the majority of the world. And there are some countries that allow that, thinking it is a kind of democracy . . . I think it is not,” And of course the gay rights activists are coming unhinged because of this. (Big Flaming Surprise)

Let’s look at some facts about this rather than doing what these activists do and that is just look at each others blogs and bitch about the same thing without any substance to their stories what so ever.

One fact is that Libya after gaining its independence from Britain and France on  December 24, 1951, Libya was terribly impoverished until oil was found in 1958, transforming its economy. Religiously speaking Libya is a Muslim country with a military dictatorship government and the fact of the matter is that there is no Muslim country that supports gay rights because Muslim countries are not run like western countries. Religion plays a central role in the governing of these countries and in the Muslim faith homosexuality is a grave sin. No Muslim theocracy will support gay rights.

Nor should any of the so called progressive run nations force another independent nation to go against its laws because 5% of the global population feel that they are being slighted. On the same token no Muslim based country has the right to interfere with the social dynamic and laws of non Muslim countries. If you don’t want to be persecuted for being gay don’t live in a Muslim country, short of that quit bitching.

The fact that Ali Abdussalam Treki’s views on gay rights is neither surprising nor disheartening. Because of his and his countries religious view, the UN amendment to the Universal Declaration Human Rights Act 1948 which includes gays and other alternative lifestyles (yes it is an alternative lifestyle to the majority of Humanity so get over yourselves) passed the UN with 66 countries signing on to the amendment which puts it in place in those 66 countries. And his personal views are his and should not be taken into account and he should not have to apologize for them. He has been accused of not holding up the principals of the United Nations because of his remarks but those 66 countries had to vote for him to be the new president.

The bottom line here is that these activist groups for gay rights need to worry about their own backyard and their own homes before trying to screw with other peoples. Another person’s feelings and opinions are no less important than yours  and the  amendment to the resolution still passed so in reality you have nothing to complain about.

So quit trying to shove your agenda down the throat of everybody and focus on what you can do in your own community to affect the changes you seek and if you get enough people to think that your ideas and positions have merrit then you will truly be closer to what you are trying to accomplish.
